Edibe SÖZEN was born in Sivas, in
1961. She had graduated from Kadıköy Kız Lisesi in
1978, and Marmara University, The Department of
International Relations in 1982. She received the
doctorate title in 1989 from İstanbul University,
Social Sciences Institute, Social Structure and
Changes Department. She was invited to Wisconsin
University Communication Arts Department as
“honorary fellow” in 1991-1993.
She obtained the
degrees of Applied Sociology Assistant Professor in
1994, and Communication Professor in 2000. During
the years 1998-2000, she had been studying on the
“Third Generation European Young Turks” in Germany,
Austria, and the Netherland. She was invited to the
University of Utah in 2000 to study on the
“vernacularization of human rights”. Her “co-edit”
study in 2001 on “European Turkish People” was given
the Scientific Research Prize in Ludwigshafen,
Germany. She made studies in Utah University,
Arizona and Chicago University in 2001, 2002 and
2003, respectively. She did some researches on
“Human Rights” in Cologne University in 2002.
She
became Management Committee Member in Anadolu Agency
between the years 2003-2006, she also involved in
The Media Announcement Institution General Committee
among “the group without a party” as the
representative of Anadolu Agency in the same years.
She became counselor about the subjects; city
studies, local administration and political
communication. Ms. Sözen has 7 works, 3 of which are
co-editionds; she also has more than 50 articles and
proclamations published both in Turkey and abroad.
Ms. Sözen knows English at the advanced level.
